about me

Hi, I'm Jess, a freelance lifestyle journalist and digital editor with over a decade of experience.

Part-time, I'm Content Editor for the Hearst Institute. In short, I edit rigorously tested product roundups to help Hearst magazine readers spend their money wisely — mainly for Good Housekeeping but also for the likes of ELLERed and Cosmopolitan. I use my SEO skills to help our articles rank highly in Google, as well as working closely with the affiliates and accreditation teams to generate as much revenue as possible.

Prior to this, I was Senior Culture Writer at The Independent, a role I left in 2016 to go freelance. I now cover all things lifestyle, from homes, culture and wellbeing to fashion, beauty, travel and everything else that makes life worth living.

I have written and edited for a huge range of much-loved newspapers, magazines and brands, including the i paper, Evening Standard, The Observer, LivingEtc, LoveProperty, Zoopla and British Airways.

I studied Interactive Journalism at City and English Literature at Durham, and can turn my pen (or, less romantically, my keyboard) to anything from crisp news stories and insightful features to engaging SEO blog posts, clicky web copy and attention-grabbing press releases.

Struggling with your content strategy? I'm a creative, enthusiastic planner with many years of busy newsroom experience using SEO, Google Analytics and social media to help grow loyal audiences of millions.

I'm also just a regular nice person, so please do get in touch.
